Position Summary:
McCall's Meat & Fish Co. is seeking a responsible and motivated Produce Buying Assistant to support our produce department operations across two retail locations. This role plays a vital part in ensuring our produce offerings are fresh, high-quality, and well-stocked by assisting with purchasing, inventory, and daily operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about local and seasonal produce.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visit farmers markets 2-3 times a week to pick up and organize orders, ensuring accurate delivery to both store locations.
- Manage inventory by tracking stock levels and reporting discrepancies or needs.
- Coordinate with both locations on product availability, seasonal changes, packing methods, and best practices.
- Pack, label, and stock produce efficiently and with attention to detail.
- Work closely with the Produce Manager to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and consistent quality across both stores.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in produce handling, grocery retail, or food purchasing is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable handling money and managing receipts/invoices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to lift 30–50 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Passion for local agriculture, sustainability, and food systems is a plus
Schedule:
40 hours (including WED/SAT/SUN)
Must be available for early morning market visits (typically 1–2 days/week)
Flexibility to travel between store locations as needed
